MuthoKhobor in one sentence
MuthoKhobor is a Bangla news aggregator with its own words: it collects what Bangladesh's newsrooms publish, shortens each important story to a minute of reading, and always sends you back to the original report.
What does the name mean?
The name is Bangla. Mutho (মুঠো) means a fist or a handful, and khobor (খবর) means news — so মুঠোখবর is "news in a handful", or simply news in your hand. The tagline on the site says the same thing: খবর, আপনার মুঠোয়. In English you will see it written as MuthoKhobor, and the address is muthokhobor.com.
Where does the news come from?
From Bangladesh's own newsrooms. The current list has 37 outlets, among them:
- Newspapers: Prothom Alo, Kaler Kantho, Jugantor, The Daily Ittefaq, Bangladesh Pratidin, Samakal, The Daily Star, Manab Zamin, Dhaka Tribune, The Business Standard, New Age, Daily Sun and more.
- TV channels: Jamuna TV, Channel 24, Ekattor TV, Ekushey TV, NTV, RTV and Channel i.
- Online portals and the national agency: Jago News, Banglanews24, Dhaka Post, Bangla Tribune, Risingbd, Sarabangla and BSS.
The full, always-current list is on the sources page, where each outlet has its own page with its latest stories.
What does a "short" look like?
Each short has a headline, a summary of 100–120 Bangla words written in MuthoKhobor's own words, a one-line "why it matters", the name and logo of the original publisher, and a "read the original" link. Nothing is copied wholesale, nothing behind a paywall is reproduced, and photos are credited to their owners. You can read shorts one after another on the shorts feed, swipe through them on a phone, or browse by desk.
How is it different from a newspaper website?
| A newspaper site | MuthoKhobor | |
|---|---|---|
| Who reports the news | Its own journalists | Nobody — it summarises other newsrooms' reports |
| How many sources | One | 37, side by side |
| Length | Full reports | About a minute per story, with a link to the full report |
| "Exclusive" stories | Yes | Never — every short is credited to its source |
| Price | Free or paywalled | Free, no account needed |
Is MuthoKhobor free?
Yes. Every short, desk and search is free to read without signing up. A free account adds personal features: saving stories, liking them, following the desks you care about, a personalised feed and your reading history. Account holders can also write on the MuthoKhobor blog.
Who writes the shorts?
The MuthoKhobor desk. Every summary is written from the original report under strict rules: only facts from that report, no opinion, no long copied phrases. Quality checks drop summaries that are too short, copied, duplicated or badly illustrated. Editors check the important stories every day against the original and add a "background and context" section; those stories carry the editor's name. The details are in the editorial policy.
